If you haven’t met Chester Lewis yet, you are missing out on a truly unique experience. He is surely the most fascinating character and definitely worth getting to know.
As a writer, I admit to acquainting myself with Chester out of curiosity. I thought the concept—a story charting the man’s 100 year lifespan from the 1930s to the 2030s—fascinating. Add to that, settings that take the reader from Perth and the Margaret River region of Western Australia, to the Whitsunday Islands in Queensland, to England, and Shanghai… Let’s go!
And bonus! I know a couple of the authors involved in the project.
The Life and Times of Chester Lewis is a story written sequentially by 11 authors, with each reading the preceding stories before writing the next ‘chapter’ for the memoir.
“The journey starts in 1931 Shanghai, China, where the British parents of the unborn Chester have moved to build Chester’s father’s career. When events take an unexpected turn, the future of Chester and the Lewis family is profoundly altered. Chester is born the following year in Perth, Australia, and so begins a century of great deeds and misdeeds, as we follow the life of Chester Lewis.”
I admit… Chapter One hooked me straight up. Michael White, experienced novelist, biographer (primarily of scientists and fiction authors) and non-fiction author, captivated me with his account of Chester’s parents. From that moment on there was no stopping.
At $3.99 Chester is a great read, plus a good little investment for writers wanting to
examine craft issues like: changing POV, past tense, present tense, first person, etc. It works.
Buy it. Read it. Enjoy it. Learn from it.
Best of all you might just discover a new author. I discovered a few.
And let me tell you right now. The last chapter not only provides a satisfying end, if you are like me you will be so sucked in by the authors storytelling you will be asking yourself…. “Who the hell is this amazing writer – Michael Grey?
Check out all the authors.
